Mary Noble Background Bampton Askham

Mary Noble was the first woman in the country to be elected to a county council (Westmorland) [Source: Patricia Hollis, Ladies Elect, p.398]. A resident of Bampton, she wrote a history of the parish and edited a transcription of the parish registers for both Bampton and Askham. In 2018 an entry for Mary will be added to the ODNB.
